CHINNOR PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER
May 2008
The Annual Assembly took place on 28th April when the Parish
Council reported on the years events to the local electorate. 15 members of the
public attended to hear reports from the Council, and representatives of the
Village Hall committee, the Sports and Social Club, Thames Valley Police,
Chinnor First Responders, and our local councillors from South Oxfordshire
District Council, and Oxfordshire County Council.
An open forum was held at the end for public questions and comments.
Some of the points raised are noted elsewhere in this newsletter, but
full copies of the reports can be viewed at the Parish office.

The modifications to Whites field hall are nearly complete, which will greatly improve the Youth Club facilities.
With the appointment of the new leaders, and the assistance of several
much appreciated volunteers, the Club is now opening on Monday and Thursday evenings,
and we would urge all parents to encourage their 13 to 18 year olds to get
involved. The intention is for the young people to be actively involved in the
organisation and running of the Club; they should be saying what they want the
club to be doing.
New Parish Office
The Parish Council has been aware for some time that the current Parish
Office, whilst being conveniently situated at the Village Centre, is not
readily accessible to all persons, particularly the elderly, infirm, and
parents with very young children.

Some modifications are required to the building before the Council
moves in, but the date of moving will be well publicised beforehand.
Anti-Social Behaviour
The light, warm evenings are with us again, and unfortunately this heralds the almost inevitable rise in late night, noisy, litter producing, and occasionally drunken gatherings in public places. Thames Valley Police have assured us that they will be taking a no nonsense approach to this in Chinnor, and have recently appointed a dedicated Community Police Constable for Chinnor. Unfortunately this officer will not be in post until well into the summer.
In the meantime, we would ask all parents of young teenagers to be aware of where their children are at night and whom they are with.
Traffic
The question of Chinnor traffic was
raised at the Annual assembly, with the suggestion of a 20mph limit through the
village, and a vehicle weight restriction along
