CHINNOR PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER
October 2007
It is a sad reflection on our times that following our appeal in the
last newsletter for volunteers to help with the Youth Club, not a single person
came forward to offer assistance. From a village of over 6,000 people this is a
disappointing response.
The council recognises that there are many hard working volunteers
within the village, but the village is surely large enough to have a few people
who could spare some time to help with the club.
The Parish Council regularly gets complaints from residents about gangs
of youths loitering around the streets, and we pushed the

The club has recently lost its leader, Gerald Brandes, and the Council
would like to express its thanks to him for his work in the formation of the
club.
The announcement in the last newsletter that the PCSOs will be taking a
firmer line with pavement parking has caused some culprits to park on the
roadway without regard to the passage of other vehicles, particularly larger
vehicles such as buses and lorries.
Residents have no legal right or claim to a parking space on the
highway directly outside their property. Vehicles must be parked without
causing hindrance to pedestrians or other road users, even if this means having
to walk a short distance. This is particularly important where parked vehicles
would impede the passage of the emergency services.
Parking is becoming ever more difficult in Chinnor, and is likely to
get worse with the new housing developments taking place, and if residents do
not take a sensible attitude when parking their vehicles, there is a very real
possibility that the Highways department will resort to double yellow lines.
There has been a query concerning the Parish Council part funding of
one of our PCSOs, the view being that we have already paid for policing in our
council tax, but the Council reaffirmed its commitment to this funding for the
3 year term originally agreed, taking the pragmatic view that if we had not
funded the PCSO our visible police cover would have been almost negligible.
This funding will be reviewed when the three years is over.
The Parish Council has recently received notification that the plans
for the development of the main part of Saireys yard have now been passed by
SODC, having been submitted to the District Council in October 2005.
The plans are for 30 houses plus a number of commercial and light
industrial units.

The Parish Council has submitted a list of projects, for which we are
seeking developer funding, to Taylor Wimpey the developers of the Cement Works
site.
The list covers a range of village projects and will be subject to
discussion with Taylor Wimpey. One item on the list is land within the Cement Works
site to create additional sports fields for the village.
The new Village Guide is still being prepared and it is not too late if you wish to place an entry in it. Contact the parish clerk on 353267
People are using the litter bins around the village to deposit
household waste and dog mess. The collection service will not empty the bins if
they are used in this way, so please refrain from this practice. There are
numerous dog litter bins around the village for dog mess, the normal litter
bins are for street litter only.
